DVD Copying Hardware

In order to copy DVDs you must have the right hardware in addition to the software.  There are two different types of hardware that you can use to copy a DVD.

The first piece of hardware you can use is obviously DVD burner.  It is much easier to copy a DVD using a DVD burner than it is using a CD burner. With a DVD burner there are usually two different steps required to copy a DVD:   Reading (ripping) the DVD to the hard drive, then burning it to a blank DVD disk. The only disadvantage with using a DVD burner over a CD burner is the cost of the burner and the blank DVD disks, but prices are dropping.

The second piece of hardware that you may use is a CD burner in combination with a DVD-ROM.   The DVD-ROM is used for reading the DVD and ripping it to the hard drive.   The CD burner is used for copying the movie onto blank CD-R(W)'s.   The only problem with this is that the CD-R(W)'s aren't the same in quality as the DVD-R(W) mediums.   Using a CD burner is more cost efficient, but the quality suffers as a result.
